It’s Time To Start Making Your Mental Health a Priority

Your mental health is a priority. Stop apologizing for making it important. You deserve to be genuinely happy and you owe it to yourself. It sounds simple, but mental health is very complicated. I know it’s not easy to just be happy or to just calm down. I have to tell you, you’re not selfish for putting your mental health first. It is okay to take a break, rest for a while. The world will not stop spinning for you, but you will catch up. Never sacrifice your mental health for anything. Take a breath and know that everything is going to be okay.

You need to remember that you are still a work in progress. Life is not all or nothing. You have time to figure this all out. Stop focusing on all the minor inconveniences and setbacks. You have to notice the little improvements, even if that means a few steps backwards before you move forward. Mental illnesses like to trick our brains into believing that these minor setbacks are actually life or death situations.

But you have to fight back!

During these moments, your brain activates it’s flight or fight response and your body naturally gravitates to the flight option, it chooses to run away from the issue. I want you to challenge your brain and fight back and take a leap of faith. Wash the fear of failure because you’ll never know if you don’t try. I know that is clique but success does not come without some form of failure and in order to succeed you have to go all out. Forget what your brain is trying to tell you, you have a purpose and something special that only you can give this world. But you can only reach your full potential if you take care of your mental health first.

Asking for a break is not a failure. Let me say this again: your mental health is just as important as your physical health. You owe this to yourself, and you have to believe that. You can take back control of your life and stop letting your mental illness define you because you are so much more than you believe. It’s time to start making your mental health a priority.

So next time your mental illness tries to take you down, instead of letting it degrade you, fight back. Take charge in your internal war and you can be victorious. Take care of yourself, do whatever you need to do to give yourself peace of mind. I can’t wait to see you genuinely smile and light up the world the way that you do. You deserve to be at peace with yourself, so never feel guilty about making your mental health a priority
